The second phase of the Shenyang Palace Museum protection and restoration project -- renovating the exterior and interior paintings on the surfaces of the ancient buildings -- kicked off on June 28 in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China's Liaoning province and is expected to be completed in late September 2021, according to local reports.

Built in 1625 under the order of the prominent chieftain Nurhachi (1559-1626), Shenyang Palace Museum is one of the two most well-preserved ancient palace complexes in the country, another being the Palace Museum in Beijing.

Tourists to Shenyang Palace Museum saw the ancient building repair work on June 30.

Li Shengneng, curator of the museum, said that people will get to know the construction of ancient architecture through the experience and learn about the scientific procedures involved in such repair work.
