With more and more companies in the country resuming work, railway stations are handling increasing numbers of returning passengers and this poses a health challenge that must be met, according to rail officials.

They said that China Railway Shenyang Group Co Ltd in Shenyang, capital of northeastern Liaoning province, adopted a raft of proactive measures to provide services for passengers and to also help prevent spread of the novel coronavirus by rail.

To meet the requirements of passengers, since Feb 7 the group resumed operating 130 trains from Shenyang to cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Changchun and Dalian.

A company spokesman said that at railway stations, all passengers need to wear masks and receive a body temperature measurement. Those who are found to have an abnormal body temperature will get further checks and disinfection.

On the trains, stewards now measure each passenger's body temperature and send those passengers with a fever to designated carriages and offer them further checks.

In addition, every corner of railway stations and train carriages are being disinfected and equipped with special dustbins for dumped masks.
