The Shenyang high-speed rail infrastructure department of China railway Shenyang Group Co Ltd received 100 kilograms of 84 disinfectant and medicinal alcohol, as well as 1,000 masks on Feb 10, according to company officials.

The badly needed items were donated by Fu Chao, a railway maintenance worker of the group, who drove more than 300 kilometers from Tongliao city in Inner Mongolia autonomous region to Shenyang in Liaoning province, to deliver the materials.

Liang Jiqiu, Party secretary of the department, said that the materials provided timely help for front-line workers, expressing his many thanks to Fu.

In the wake of the novel coronavirus outbreak, medical materials are in short supply for railway workers, especially masks.

Trying every means possible, Fu contacted many friends and bought 1,000 masks within a week.

I am not a doctor who can save patients' lives, but I should do something I can do, said Fu, who also donated 10,000 medical masks to Wuhan -- epicenter of the virus outbreak in China.

Fu's wife is a doctor and she went to Wuhan to help after the epidemic outbreak, while Fu also needed to remain at his post. They sent their 4-year-old son to their parents' home and went to the fight against the epidemic.

Following his donation, Fu returned Tongliao, where he would conduct maintenance work on high-speed trains several hours later.
