The northern branch of China Southern Airlines on Feb 9 sent 502 medical workers and 20.21 tons of medical materials from Shenyang in northeastern Liaoning province to help in the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak in China -- Wuhan city in central Hubei province -- according to local officials.

They said that the 502 medical workers are from across Liaoning province.

Four planes were arranged for the transport mission, representing the single biggest emergency shipment since outbreak of the epidemic, according to officials.

To date, the northern branch of China Southern Airlines has sent four batches of medical staff and materials from Shenyang to Wuhan, comprising 790 workers and 31.51 tons of materials.
