The 8th Liao culture winter fishing festival opened on Jan 11 at Wolong Lake in Kangping county in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning province, according to local reports.
It was part of Shenyang’s winter tourism festival this year.
Ceremonies featuring the winter fishing culture of the Liao Dynasty (916-1125) were held at the opening ceremony, including prayers for a good catch.
Established in 2013, the festival has since been held annually, promoting traditional Liao winter fishing culture and winter tourism in Shenyang.
This year, some of the country’s well-known calligraphers, chefs, folk custom masters and musicians were invited to showcase their skills during the festival.
The festival runs to Jan 16 and officials said 220,000 visitors came on the opening day.
