Shenyang offers host of Spring Festival cultural activities

The districts in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning province, are offering a heady host of cultural and tourism activities to locals during the upcoming Spring Festival period, according to a news conference held by the Shenyang Municipal People’s Government Information Office on Jan 8.

Heping district: 105 communities celebrate Spring Festival

From Jan 14 to Feb 8, celebrations for the Spring Festival will be held in 105 communities in Heping district, including writing couplets, guessing lantern riddles and making sweet dumplings.

The Huangsi temple fair will be held from Jan 25 to Feb 9, offering more than 10 activities.

A Spring Festival couplets exhibition will be held at the district’s library on Jan 21; an intangible cultural heritage exhibition will be held on Feb 6, and an opera performance will be held on Feb 8 to celebrate the Lantern Festival.

Dadong district: activities promote traditional culture

Traditional sports fun games will be held on Jan 10, where Shenyang local can participate in folk sport games.

During the Spring Festival, cooking contests will be held among communities in Dadong district.

Hunnan district: Shengjing ice and snow world opens to visitors

The Shengjing ice and snow world in Hunnan district opened to visitors on Jan 8, showcasing 122 ice sculptures and dozens of snow sculptures.

Huanggu district: intangible cultural heritage items showcase traditional culture

The first lantern exhibition will be held at Tawan Xingshun night market. A lantern riddle guessing activity will be held there on Feb 8, which marks the arrival of the Lantern Festival.

An intangible cultural heritage item exhibition will be held at the district’s culture and art center, showcasing more than 300 Shenyang cultural items.

A Chinese character cultural exhibition will also be held at the center, displaying the history and development of Chinese characters.

Shenhe district: Spring Festival fair opens on Jan 17

The Spring Festival fair will start on Jan 17 and run to Jan 24, with more than 100 exhibitions and sales stands.

The first Huangcheng temple fair will be held on Feb 7-9, as well as Spring Festival lantern festival and a lantern riddle guessing activity.

Sujiatun district: people participate in various cultural activities

The district’s first poem reading event will be held on Jan 20; cultural performance and artworks will be on display in the district from Jan 15 to Feb 8.

Performances of yanko -- a popular folk dance -- and lantern riddle guessing activities will be held on the Lantern Festival.

Tiexi district: rich cultural events entertain locals

A folk cultural festival was held in the district on Jan 5; a painting and calligraphy exhibition will be held at the district’s cultural center on Jan 13.

A celebration event for the Spring Festival will be held on Jan 16, staging cultural and art performances.

A Spring Festival celebration event will be held for farmers in the district on Jan 18.

A cultural temple fair will be held on Feb 8, displaying traditional cultural items.

Yuhong district: artists write Spring Festival couplets for locals

An exhibition of intangible cultural heritage items will be held on Jan 10.

Before the Spring Festival, artists in Yuhong district will write couplets for the locals.

A lantern riddle guessing activity will be held in Yuhong district on Feb 8, which marks the Lantern Festival.

Shenbei new area: skiing competitions and lantern festival to amuse locals

A skiing competition will be held at Guaipo skiing report on Feb 12; a lantern festival is underway at Qixing Park, running from Jan 1 to Feb 23.

A Xibe ethnic group folk cultural event will be held on Feb 10 in Silongwan village.
