Shenyang honored for its ice, snow tourism

Shenyang, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning province, ranked fourth among China’s top 10 ice and snow tourism cities in 2020, according to a report on the tourism development segment released on Jan 5.

The report was released by the China Tourism Academy at the 2020 China Ice and Snow Tourism Development Forum held in Harbin city in Heilongjiang province

Shenyang was also listed as one of China’s top 10 popular traditional ice and snow tourism destinations, as well as one of China’s top 10 popular ice and snow travelling routes, winning further accolades.

Officials said that the evaluation of China’s top 10 ice and snow tourism cities in 2020 was based on four aspects, namely ice and snow resources, a city quality tourism index, an environmental friendliness index and government support.

Shenyang ranked fourth in the overall evaluation, following Harbin in Heilongjiang province, Changchun in Jilin province and Zhangjiakou in Hebei province.

Officials said that in recent years, Shenyang has placed a great deal of emphasis on the development of its ice and snow tourism, offering ideal winter destinations such as Qipan Mountain Ice and Snow World and Wulihe ice and snow park.

During the 2017-2018 winter tourism festival from December 2017 to March 2018, Shenyang received 28.32 million visitors, marking soaring year-on-year growth of 82.1 percent.

During the 2018-2019 winter tourism festival from December 2018 to March 2019, the city received 38.43 million visitors, a year-on-year increase of 26.31 percent.

Officials said that more and more people are participating in ice and snow sports and activities in Shenyang.

The 2019-2020 Shenyang winter tourism festival has launched more than 120 activities in six themes, namely ice and snow culture, ice and snow sports, hot springs, winter folk customs, winter foods and the ice and snow trade.
