Shenyang in Northeast China’s Liaoning province recently released an implementation plan for the protection of the historical and cultural city, according to information released by the Shenyang municipal government on Dec 22.
According to the plan, Shenyang will carry out tasks including the restoration and excavation of cultural relics, repairs of historical buildings, the comprehensive upgrading of historical and cultural blocks and the renewal and development of historical urban areas.
The plan is to focus on 88 cultural projects in Shenyang.
Among flagship projects is the restoration of the Beidaying Ruins, the former site of the Manchuria Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Taimiao Temple complex in the Shenyang Palace Museum, a group of buildings in Tangzi Street and the improvement of Shengjing Imperial City and Zhongshan Block Street.
Officials said that Shenyang has continued to carry out work on the protection of historical and cultural relics and ruins.
It has also promoted the protection and utilization of heritage resources since it was listed as a national historical and cultural city in 1986, according to the person in charge of the cultural tourism department of Shenyang.
Shenyang is known as "the birthplace of a dynasty and two emperors", namely the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and the emperors Nurhaci and his son Hong Taiji.
It was also one of the culture centers during the period of the Republic of China (1912-49) and the frontier against Japanese aggression.
After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Shenyang became a center city of the old Northeast China Industrial Base and made a great contribution to China’s heavy industry and national defense.
