The 2019 Beijing China Art International Fair was held in Beijing from Nov 28 to Dec 1, where Shenyang city, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning province, displayed and promoted its intangible cultural heritage items.

According to officials from the Shenyang culture, tourism, radio and television bureau, the exhibition area for Shenyang’s intangible cultural heritage items was set up in the central hall.

It showcased the region’s nut carvings, handcraft skills for qipao –– the traditional Chinese body-hugging, one-piece dress, also known in Cantonese as the cheongsam -- and more.

Fittings for the qipao and a hands-on experience for crafting nut carvings were offered to visitors, in order to attract more people and promote Shenyang’s culture wider.

The organizers said Shenyang’s display proved popular among visitors.

They said that in addition to sales at the event, many Beijing companies showed interest in trading Shenyang’s cultural heritage products.
