Curtain goes up on Pingju Opera center in Shenyang

A Pingju Opera research center was unveiled at Shenyang University in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning, on Nov 25, representing the first of its kind in the province, according to officials.

Pingju Opera is a form of traditional Chinese opera popular in North and Northeast China.

Feng Yuping, deputy chairwoman of the China Theatre Association, has been appointed to the post of director of the newly established center.

Shenyang University officials said that the university is duty bound to inherit and promote the traditional artform. The center will focus on education and research of the art, as well as its innovative development, personnel training, social practice and service.

The center aims to develop into an influential platform for theoretical research as well as for the innovation and promotion of Pingju Opera within Liaoning province and in China, officials added.

Feng said that the establishment of the center would promote the traditional art to more young people.
