A train from Shenyang Metro Line 1 has undergone major overhaul and maintenance at Shenyang CRRC Rail Traffic Equipment Co Ltd, a company based in Shenyang, capital of Liaoning province, according to local reports.

With a total of 33 trains, Shenyang Metro Line 1 went into operation in September 2010.

According to national regulations, metro trains that have been in service for 10 years or traveled 1.2 million kilometers need a major overhaul to ensure their safety.

Twenty-three of the 33 trains need maintenance, according to the officials.

Repair work includes maintenance on hauling systems, brakes, air conditioning, broadcast equipment and upgrades to fire alarms and fire extinguishers.

Officials said that after the maintenance and repair work the trains were almost as good as new.

It took technicians about half a year to overhaul the first train -- in order to build up experience -- which went back into service on Nov 26.

And another 22 trains will be repaired on schedule, with each taking about two and a half months.

Rail officials said the maintenance would not affect the running of Metro Line 1.
