Some 400 power walkers suited up and hit the road at the Shenyang Imperial Palace in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning province on Nov 23, according to local reports.

Hosted by the Shenyang Palace Museum and organized by the Shenyang Evening News, the activity was held in celebration of the 93th anniversary of the founding of Shenyang Palace Museum.

Dignitaries attending the event included museum curator Li Shengneng, Shenyang Evening News Chief Editor Chang Ling and Li Li, deputy curator of Shenyang Palace Museum.

At the opening ceremony, poetry recitals and cheerleader performances entertained the visitors.

As one of the two existing large palace complexes in China -- the another being the Forbidden City in Beijing -- Shenyang Palace Museum boasts a history of more than 390 years and is a must-see attraction in the city.

Organizers said that the event aimed to promote traditional culture, showcase Shenyang’s long history and culture, raise people’s awareness of health and advocate green travel.

Li Shengneng said the event combined fitness and promoting culture and more such activities would be held in the city to enrich the lives of its residents.

Kang Kai, a 63-year-old participant, said that for him the event was very meaningful.

He has walked at Zhongshan Park every day for more than seven years and he said the event not only promoted the city’s culture, but also promoted Shenyang Palace Museum to the people across the country.
