A power walk will be held at the Shenyang Imperial Palace in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning province, on Nov 23, according to local reports.

Hosted by the Shenyang Palace Museum and organized by the Shenyang Evening News, the public fun activity is in celebration of the 93th anniversary of the founding of Shenyang Palace Museum.

Organizers said they expected around 400 walkers to take part.

Organizers said that the event also aims to promote traditional culture, showcase Shenyang’s long history and culture, raise people’s awareness of health and advocate green travel.

As one of the two existing large palace complexes in China -- the another being the Forbidden City in Beijing -- Shenyang Palace Museum boasts a rich culture going back to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and is the hottest destination for visitors to the city.

Since the start of winter, Shenyang has welcomed two snowfalls, softening the red walls of Shenyang Imperial Palace with white snow.

Power walking has taken off in popularity in recent years, and cold though it is in Shenyang, many people still participate in the exercise every day.

At the opening ceremony for the activity, a show of Qing Dynasty clothes, poetry recitations and more cultural performances will be held, according to the organizers.
