Shenyang launches three-year plan to protect cultural sites

Shenyang, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning province, recently announced a three-year plan to protect the city’s historic and cultural sites, according to local news reports.

Under the plan, from 2019 to 2021 Shenyang will renovate and protect a total of 88 cultural projects.

Officials said these sites would feature the culture of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), civilization during the Republic of China (1912-1949), anti-war history, and industrial culture.

Among the 88 projects, Shenyang city will renovate and explore 41 sites, repair 25 historic buildings, improve 16 historical areas, as well as improve two cultural blocks in three stages spread over three years.

In the current year, the city has embarked on renovating 28 sites and conduct archaeological excavation of one site. Next year, the city will renovate six sites and excavate two sites and the follow year it will renovate four sites and excavate three sites.

Officials added that Shenyang will repair two historic buildings in 2019, then 10 in 2020 and 13 in 2021.

It will also improve the environment of seven historic areas in the city in 2019 and nine in 2020-2021.
