Lotus festival kicks off in Shenyang

The 6th Shenyang Faku lotus festival kicked off in the Shenlongwan scenic area in Faku county in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning province, on July 26.

The festival is held to promote the local culture and tourism sector and organizers said visitors can admire the beauty of the lotus flowers, visit rural areas and take in ethnic cultural performances, photography and go fishing.

The cultivation of lotus flowers in the Shenlongan scenic area can be traced back to the Liao Dynasty (916-1125).

In recent years, the festival has placed a lot of its focus on rural revitalization, improving the ecological environment and promoting rural tourism, which has become a new economic driver in the county.

Having been held for five seasons, the festival helps promote traditional culture of the Liao Dynasty and attracts more visitors to the Shenglongwan scenic area.
