An exhibition of photographs of preeminent Chinese author and poet Lu Xun – thought by many to be the father of modern Chinese literature -- opened at the Jiuwu Culture City in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning province, on July 17.

Lu Xun is the pen name of Zhou Shuren, who lived from 1881 to 1936. His works, including The True Story of Ah Q and A Madman's Diary, placed him at the forefront of Chinese writers who ushered in Chinese literature into the modern era.

Jointly hosted by the Shenyang culture working committee of the Lu Xun Culture Foundation and Shenyang Jiuwu Culture City, the exhibition displays 136 exhibits, including 127 photos –– the earliest taken in 1903 and the latest taken in 1936.

All exhibits are scanned reproductions from original photos. More than 80 percent of the photos are from the collection of Lu Xun's family.

Organizers said that the exhibition aims to allow visitors to learn about Lu Xun and his indomitable spirit.

Part of the Jiuwu Culture City’s celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the exhibition will last until Aug 17 and is open to visitors for no charge.
