Foreigners treated to gala in Shenyang

Shenyang International Friendship Gala Evening –– the third “Shenyang in the Eye of Foreigners” Theme Party was held at Shengjing Grand Theater in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning province, on Sept 12.

Around 1,200 visitors participated in the event, including foreign students in Shenyang, representatives from foreign-funded companies, foreign businesspeople in Shenyang, and those attending the 18th WWCAM (World Winter Cities Association for Mayors) Mayors Conference in the city from Sept 12 to 14.

Hosted by Shenyang’s publicity department and education, science and industry department, the event included three segments showcasing the city’s long history, profound culture, and development in modern society, in order to put Shenyang in the spotlight and boost tourism and investment.

Performances depicting aspects of China’s traditional culture were staged for visitors, including Peking Opera and Pingju Opera –– a popular type of opera in North and Northeast China.

Qipao (a traditional, body-hugging dress) shows, with the dresses of Manchu embroidery, an intangible cultural heritage of Shenyang, were also staged for visitors.

Foreign performers also got to sample some of China’s traditions, taking part in qipao shows and traditional dancing.
