A list of the top 500 private enterprises in the country was released at the 2018 China Top 500 Private Enterprises Summit, which opened in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning province, on Aug 29.
Hosted by the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce and Liaoning Provincial People’s Government, the event will run until Aug 31.
Huawei Investment and Holding, Suning Holdings Group, and Amer International Group rank in the top three.
Nine companies on the list achieved revenues of over 300 billion yuan ($43.94 billion) in 2017, with Huawei making more than 600 billion yuan.
In 2017, a total of 61 companies had total assets exceeding 100 billion yuan, 11 more than in 2016.
And 17 of the top 500 private enterprises were among the top 500 in the world, one more than last year.
A total of 104 companies made it onto the list for the first time, according to Huang Rong, vice-chairman of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce. The first list was released in 2010.
Data revealed that in 2017, the total tax payments made by the top 500 private enterprises reached 1.03 trillion yuan –– a new record. And the amount accounted for 7.6 percent of national tax revenues.
The number of enterprises in the tertiary industry has increased for five consecutive years, from 117 in 2012 to 162 in 2017, an increase of 38.46 percent; while the number of enterprises in the secondary industry has declined for five consecutive years, from 380 in 2012 to 333 in 2017.
Among the top 500 enterprises, 288 companies are manufacturing firms, more than in any other sector.
In 2017, the top 500 private enterprises invested in 1,503 overseas projects, a decrease of 9.4 percent compared with 2016.
The total exports of the top 500 private enterprises were $125.2 billion, accounting for 5.51 percent of China's total exports.
Several forums also took place during the opening day, covering areas such as financial services, poverty relief, environmental protection, and pollution prevention.
In addition, conferences themed on revitalizing development in Northeast China will be held during the event.
