Around 600 swimmers took part in a mass swim at Wulihe Park in Shenyang, Northeast China’s Liaoning province on July 16.
The swim took place in the Hunhe River which runs through the park, with a total of around 2,000 people present at the event.
A diverse group of participants took to the water, including elderly and disabled swimmers.
Ru Donglin, 57, has paralysis of the lower limbs. He managed to swim 1,000 meters with relative ease.
I feel free in the water, and completing a challenge like this helps me rise to other challenges in my life, said Ru.
At 85, Ding Anmin was the oldest participant in the activity. He is a member of Shenyang triathlon sports association, as well as a senior consultant at Shenyang winter swimming association.
The event was hosted by Shenyang Sports Federation, and organized by Shenyang winter swimming association. The swim was sponsored by Shenyang sports foundation.
He Yinkuan, president of Shenyang sports foundation, said that the foundation hopes to encourage more Shenyang residents to go outdoors and exercise.
