The United States has recently been promoting itself as a tourism destination in Shenyang, Liaoning province, with 10 tourism agencies led by Brand USA visiting the city, on July 5.
Brand USA is a public-private cooperative agency formed in 2010 to promote travel to the US.
Together with 10 travel promotion agencies, including hotel and airline companies, it marketed travel to the US to around 100 personnel from Shenyang’s outbound travel companies and representatives from local media organizations.
The agencies are keen to promote travel to the United States throughout China, and have already visited several cities, including Qingdao and Jinan in Shandong province, Changsha in Hunan province, Hangzhou in Zhejiang province, and Nanjing in Jiangsu province.
They have also organized trips for representatives of China’s tourism industry to visit the US so that they can learn more about the country, and how to market the US as a tourism destination in China.
Increased contacts between our two countries can only be a good thing, said Gregory May, consul-general of the US in Shenyang.
According to the latest statistics from the National Travel and Tourism Office of the US Department of Commerce, Chinese visitors ranked fifth among overseas tourists to the country.
And it is not hard to see why countries are keen to attract Chinese tourists. In 2016, Chinese tourists spent a total of $ 33 billion in the US, injecting more than $ 90 million a day into the US economy.
