The seventh Ba'erhu Mountain climbing festival began on June 12 in Faku county, Shenyang, Liaoning province.

Known in ancient times as Shixiong Mountain, the Ba'erhu Mountain range is home to numerous peaks, including Miaotai Mountain, Chengzhi Mountain and Daluobo Mountain. The tallest peak, Miaotai, is at 447.2 meters, the highest point in Shenyang.

An important site featuring historical and cultural artifacts from the Liao Dynasty (916-1125), the mountain currently operates as a scenic tourist spot featuring local customs, archaeology, accessible popular science and sightseeing activities.

According to Yang Xiuling, director of the county’s tourism bureau, this year’s festival aims to showcase and promote Liao culture in Faku. Climbing competitions, Mongolian traditional performances, and activities related to Manchu and Mongolian culture will be held.
