The Confucius Institutes are set up worldwide by the Hanban (Chinese Language Council International) to promote Chinese language and culture, with the use of standard Chinese language textbooks for overseas learners and Chinese language courses, for cultural and educational exchanges and more friendly relations with other countries to promote cultural diversity globally. Schools wanting to help with Confucius Institutes overseas need considerable experience in cross-cultural communication and qualified Chinese language teaching facilities and volunteers, and are generally found in major Chinese cities.
