Pingyao honors lacquerware artists

An awards ceremony for a competition involving artwork created using traditional Pingyao varnishing lacquerware techniques took place in Pingyao county, on Jan 11.

After a period of internet voting by members of the public, experts and visitors to a lacquerware exhibition –– a series of tea sets created by Lei Xingxing won first prize, with 40 artists winning second and third prizes, as well as awards for outstanding pieces of work.

Sponsored by Pingyao culture bureau and Pingyao Urban Collective Industrial Association, the competition aimed to generate enthusiasm and interest for traditional local varnishing techniques.

The organizing committee of the competition will register the copyrights of the winning pieces of artwork and hold a trade fair to promote them.
