A convoy of startup companies from Qingdao who have embarked on an epic cross-country drive from Beijing to Tibet, reached Pingyao on July 13, their second scenic spot stop in Shanxi province after first visiting Mount Wutai, qingdaonews.com reports.

Pingyao is a national historic cultural city, included on the world cultural heritage list, and features one of the most preserved examples of an ancient city dating back to China's Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.

Visited by thousands of tourists every year, this ancient city is has become a popular tourist destination for travellers from home and abroad. Every street of the city is lined with souvenirs, hotels, bars, coffee shops, and museums.

Most of the shopkeepers are local people who are actively involved in the city's booming tourism industry.

During their stay in Pingyao, the road warriors attended a live-action performance named "Impression Pingyao". The theatre integrates modern technology with traditional style and recaptures the hustle and bustle found in the ancient business district of the city.
