Pingyao county announced the opening of its "Spring Festival Couplet" event, on Feb 11, where hundreds of calligraphers gathered around the historical Xingguo Temple to display their calligraphic skills and send New Year's wishes to both locals and visitors, with 126 Pingyao calligraphers and calligraphy lovers taking part.

Volunteers from the local Communist Youth League also put a lot of effort into organizing this year's activity, along with some provincial officials who took part and took time out to write and distribute couplets themselves.

Host of the event was the county Party and government, which got a considerable amount of acclaim from visitors and locals alike.
