Pingyao prepares to restore its pagoda relics

Pingyao county, Shanxi province held a seminar, on Feb 15, on repair work for a local Buddhist relic from the Qing Dynasty (1636-1912), the Wenfeng Pagoda, with county officials, a design company, and relics specialists taking part and giving their views on how to go about it.

Opening the discussion was the design company, which reviewed the pagoda's history, company restoration ideas, the surrounding area, local transportation, a parking lot, and construction materials. The other participants then gave their thoughts on the plan's practicality.

The head of the county, Cao Zhisheng, emphasized the need for the restoration work to retain the historical features, and for tourism services in the surrounding area to be improved.

The vice-head of the county, Hu Jinliang who is in charge of the project, described the work of various departments related to the project and emphasized the need for fire prevention, especially in the forest around the pagoda and said that they are installing fire detection equipment.

All of the suggestions from the meeting have been compiled for further examination.
