update: 2014-12-11

A total of 14 standards for energy conservation were released by the Shanxi Provincial Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision last month. Eight of them are recommended standards and the rest compulsory.

As part of its campaign to cut energy consumption, local authorities in Shanxi have promulgated 41 recommended and compulsory standards since 2010, including those for magnesium smelting, calcium carbide, iron alloy, cement, alumina, synthetic ammonia, sodium hydroxide, steel and steel castings.

The 14 standards were released on Nov 1 and put into official operation from Dec 1. Of them are energy consumption standards for porcelain making as well as liquor and vegetable oil production. There are also standards for evaluating energy consumption of cement production as well as those on power management, tunnel light checks before acceptance and comprehensive energy quota per capita at public institutions.
