Organizers of the 2013 Datong ancient capital lantern festival recently announced the list of activities, Datong Evening News reported last Saturday. The lantern festival starts on Feb 10, in Datong, Shanxi province and will be held in three places – south wall, east wall, and north wall.

The theme is “Lighting up the world for harmony”, and it will have four lantern exhibition areas, each with a different sub-theme covering classic scenic spots, folk culture, a renaissance, and fashion. There will also be 77 large light displays and various other lights that will turn Datong’s ancient walls into a very colorful world.

The cultural activities that are a major part of the festival will allow tourists to enjoy some sightseeing, take part in or interact with performers, and just experience the feel of a lantern festival. These activities together will combine the light festival with a spring festival, as well as temple fairs, and a touch of fashion.
