Located five kilometers south of the county seat of Xiangfen, Linfen city, the ancient village of Dingcun has two key cultural relic sites under national protection –– the ruins of the Paleolithic era and dwellings from the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.

The well-preserved dwellings include over 40 residential compounds built between the reign of Emperor Wanli (1573-1620) of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and that of Emperor Xuantong (1909-1911) of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

The dwellings each consist of three courtyards forming quadrangle patterns and are famous for the carvings on the structures, which depict historical figures, flowers, animals and operas.
