<BR>Bird-shaped wine vessel (zun)

This vessel, 39 cm tall, 30.5 cm long, and 17.5 cm wide, was unearthed in the village of Beizhao, Tomb No 114 of the Jin site, in 1992. It is in the shape of a phoenix looking back with its tail curved downward like an elephant trunk to form a third point of support, along with two legs. It is lifelike, unique, and exquisitely decorated, making it a rare art treasure. it's the lid and base are inscribed with the characters for “Wine vessel made by the Marquis of Jin State for worshipping his ancestors”, clearly showing that the it was intended as a vessel for sacrificial ceremonies in the ancestral temple of the marquis.
