More than 15.01 million tourists visited Shanxi province during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday from June 16 to 18, an increase of 19.87 percent year-on-year. The visitors brought in tourism revenues of 6.91 billion yuan ($1.06 billion), up 19.55 percent on the same period in 2017.

During the three-day vacation, the province welcomed 4.45 million overnight visitors, representing year-on-year growth of 18.64 percent.

Self-planned tours by families and groups of friends represented the majority of visits to the province. As the holiday is near graduation period, many of the tourists were students relaxing after completing their degrees.

Apart from sightseeing at the most popular attractions such as the Ancient City of Pingyao, Mount Wutai and Yungang Grottoes, major theme parks and aquatic amusement parks also proved to be popular tourist attractions over the holiday.

The tourism products and services available at tourist attractions in Shanxi feature traditional culture, recreation and health promotion. For example, a tourist train marketed at tourists traveling from Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei province carried more than 500 passengers to Jincheng city where a wellness tourism festival was held during the holiday.

In addition, cities across Shanxi enacted various preferential policies targeting tourists, which greatly helped the tourism boom in the province.
