The State Forestry and Grassland Administration launched a forestry investigation event in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi province, June 4.

Ambassadors to China from countries such as Germany, South Africa, Chile, Japan and Australia will inspect Shanxi's treatment of soil degradation and the state of the shelterbelt construction project in Northwest, Northeast and North China during the five-day tour.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Northwest, Northeast and North China Shelterbelt Project.

Shanxi, a key province in the project, has spent many years creating a 600-kilometer greenery corridor in the Shanxi-Shaanxi Grand Valley.

A regional shelterbelt network has also been established in a framework of forests to assist in sand fixation and the creation of windbreaks in north Shanxi, forests for water and soil conservation in central and south Shanxi, forests for water supply conservation in the upper reaches of Fenhe River, and farmland shelterbelts in the plains of Shanxi.

As an excellent example of the project, Shanxi aims to show these ambassadors the scheme’s achievements and to increase China's forestry influence around the world.
