More attention should be paid to the training of pediatricians, according to Han Qinghua, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), during the national two sessions.

Han, also the vice-president of No 1 Hospital of Shanxi Medical University, explained that pediatricians are few in number, poorly paid and overworked in China. As the two-child policy has been promoted and more births are expected, the demand for pediatricians is increasing.

She suggested that the pediatric medical education and training system, wages and welfare for pediatricians, and the training of pediatricians at the local level should be improved. In addition, preferential policies for pediatricians in performance evaluation, professional titles, and further education need to be offered.
