A team from Yumenhe Primary School in Shanxi province took the crown at the World Educational Robot Contest (WER) 2017 World Championship held in Shanghai from Nov 18 to 19, becoming the first winners since Shanxi first took part in the competition 17 years ago.

The three-person team from Yumenhe Primary School in Fenyang stood out among more than 1,500 teams from 50 countries and regions with the shortest time for completing tasks, zero reboots and the highest total score.

The WER World Championship, a high-level annual event organized by the World Educational Robotics Society, is an international robot contest for teenagers. Participants complete challenges and tasks using robots, by designing and programming using an intelligent platform.

The contest requires participants to complete the competition through teamwork –– to demonstrate analytical skills, and creative and practical abilities.

"It's an unforgettable experience for us to participate in this exciting championship. It improved our awareness of science and technology, encouraged innovation and enhanced our practical abilities and teamwork skills," said Zhang Yuhan, a member of the winning team.

Indeed, it's not the first time that the team has shown its talents and skills in robot competitions. During May, Yumenhe Primary School, which was founded just two years ago, championed a provincial Abilix WER contest. The school has always emphasized technology skills by launching various related courses and organizing activities and clubs.
