Lyuliang recognized for spirit production

Lyuliang city in Shanxi province was recognized as one of the world's top 10 spirit-producing areas at the Shanghai International Alcoholic Drink Fair on Nov 19.

The liquor produced in Lyuliang city occupies a special place in the development of alcoholic drink, with its rise to fame dating back 1,500 years.

The city has China's largest production base for mild aromatic Chinese spirit – Fenhe Spirits Producing Area –– and a Chinese Spirit City with investment of over 10 billion yuan ($1.51 billion) and floorage equal to 10 times the size of the Palace Museum in Beijing.

The city now has four notable liquor brands including Fenjiu and Xinghuacun.

Next, Lyuliang will help further develop the local Chinese spirits industry and try to build itself into a world famous production base for alcoholic drinks –– attracting tourists by taking advantage of the international platform offered by the fair, according to Wang Liwei, mayor of Lyuliang city.
