Changzhi in Shanxi province opened a calligraphy and painting exhibition on Sept 1.

The exhibition, as a major event in the city's first art festival launched the same day, showcased local culture and art and provided a communication platform for enthusiasts of calligraphy and painting.

More than 240 pieces of art, including paintings, woodcuttings and different styles of Chinese calligraphy, were on display.

To stimulate people’s enthusiasm for artistic expression, the exhibition will also select 20 calligraphy masters and reward 10 promising newcomers in calligraphy and painting before the end of the event on Sept 6.
