A sculpture exhibition, as one of 12 major exhibitions launched during the first Shanxi Art Festival, opened in Taiyuan Art Museum, Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi province, on Aug 18.

The exhibition themed around telling tales of Shanxi through sculptures selected 61 artworks from 58 sculptors, including famous senior artists and young sculptors. The sculptures focused on the environment, society, and traditions of Shanxi, showcasing the image of Shanxi through different times.

The art of sculpture has been developing in Shanxi for more than 1,000 years, dating back to the Wei Dynasty (220-265). Around 70 percent of painted Buddhist sculptures nationwide come from Shanxi, showcasing the boom of this art form in the province.

The exhibition will run until Sept 19.
