Shuozhou in Shanxi province will invest 9.23 billion yuan ($1.34 billion) in urban construction involving a total of 84 projects, according to acting mayor Liu Zhihong.

The projects, consisting of civil engineering, water supply infrastructure, waste disposal and environmental protection, are expected to improve people's livelihoods and promote Shuozhou's image.

Sixteen local industrial parks will be integrated into six development areas in an area measuring 293 square kilometers, with four to be built as provincial development zones. The output of the six areas aims to account for 25 percent of gross regional product by 2020.

In addition, the city will promote the tourism and service industries. Local tourist attractions, such as the Pagoda of Fogong Temple and Chongfu Temple, will upgrade their facilities, management and services to enhance their competiveness. The logistics and commerce sectors will be further developed with government support.
