An undergraduate short film competition focusing on financial affairs concluded on Nov 28 in Taiyuan.

The competition, initiated in September, was organized by the Shanxi office of China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC) to disseminate financial knowledge in universities and colleges across Shanxi province, and help raise awareness of illegal financial activities.

"Enhancing students' awareness of financial rules and regulations is necessary as illegal financial activities which cause losses to undergraduates are increasing on campus," said Wu Zengping, vice director of Shanxi office of CBRC.

Shanxi financial institutions will show the short films at their business sites to draw public attention to financial affairs and property security, according to Wu.

There were 128 short films from 25 universities collected during the three-month event with more than 700 undergraduates from some 50 colleges engaged in creating scenarios, acting and filming.

The entries recorded illegal financial activities in colleges, such as online fraud and illegal fundraising, reflecting a lack of financial knowledge and awareness of property rights among many college students.
