A team from Taiyuan University of Technology (TYUT) in Shanxi achieved recognition at the International Underwater Robot Competition in Beijing, which took place from Oct 21 to 24, winning two championships and one second prize in three different programs.

After competing in four programs from three categories, the TYUT group won two programs and came second in the innovative underwater robot category. This is largely thanks to the group's rich experience and teamwork. The team has participated in robot competitions of various sizes since its foundation in 2007, gaining 25 championships and 100 first prizes.

The most interesting part of the competition was the category of intelligent bionic fish. Competitors used special fish which were preset with different systems to contend with rival groups in programs simulating a realistic environment, such as the inspection of oil pipelines and aeroamphibious rescue.

More than 500 teams from 109 universities competed in 18 programs of five different categories at the annual competition which is in its eighth year.
