Filmmakers can show off the best of Shanxi province through short films at a microfilm competition, which began on Oct 25 in Qinglong ancient town.

Microfilm enthusiasts and studios all around China can take part in the event, recording history, traditional culture, scenery, customs, and tourist attractions in Shanxi.

The entries are divided into three types, namely documentaries, dramas, and cartoons. Each must be less than 30 minutes long.

The deadline for the collection of entries is Dec 10. There will be awards after the selection, including a first prize, two second prizes and several awards for different categories. Winners will also receive certificates and bonuses with the champion getting 30,000 yuan ($4,431).

To promote the image of Shanxi and attract more participants, the organizer will hold a rural tourism seminar, a training course for further study on the creation of microfilms, and exhibitions of some of the best entries from the competition.

The event will boost sightseeing and cultural industries in the province, spreading North China's unique geography and civilization through microfilms.
