About 225,000 households in Taiyuan, capital city of Shanxi province, benefit from the afterheat and surplus energy of industrial production.
Taiyuan Iron and Steel (Group) Co, a Shanxi-based steel giant, has been using the surplus energy and afterheat in its production for centralized heating, an approach that saves coal and reduces emissions. The system heats an area of 22.5 million square meters, with an increase of 5 million square meters this winter.
To date, the steel group is one of the main heating sources of the city, helping it get a non-coal winter heat supply.
