Shanxi province’s total imports and exports were worth $10.91 billion from January to September, ranking the 10th highest growth nationwide and up 17 places from last year, according to the province’s department of commerce.

Foreign trade enjoyed stable development in that period, especially exports, said Wang Laiping, deputy head of Shanxi Department of Commerce. The data show that the province’s exports increased 6.6 percent year-on-year and were worth $6.11 billion in the first nine months.

Exports of electromechanical products accounted for 61.44 percent of the province’s total exports, and high-tech products 43.75 percent, said Wang, added they were all-time highs.

Processing industry increased its contribution to the province’s foreign trade from January to September.

In the first three quarters of the year, foreign-invested enterprises contributed nearly half of the province’s imports and exports.

Shanxi is successfully implementing a strategy for diversified markets. The province’s top three overseas markets are EU, US and ASEAN now.

It has taken measures to promote its foreign trade in the first three quarters. In addition to brands promotion in domestic markets, such as Lanzhou in Gansu province, and Changchun of Jilin province, this year’s promotion had overseas stops in Hungary, Kyrghyzstan and Russia. In this October, its overseas promotion arrived in Italy, as the tour’s last stop this year.
