A memorial stone was erected next to the former “Taiyuan Concentration Camp” site in North China’s Shanxi province on Nov 8 by funds raised by descendants of the survivors from the concentration camp.

The memorial stone was built to appeal the public to remember the martyrs who died in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. History should never be forgotten and peace should be cherished. The so-called “Taiyuan Concentration Camp,” covering an area of 300 mu (20 hectares), was built in 1938 by the Japanese army, under the pretence of a construction brigade. More than 10,000 Chinese prisoners of war, even civilians, were imprisoned and tortured there during the war.
