Competitive rowers from 12 top universities around the world will compete at the International Universities Rowing Regatta (IURR) in Fenhe Ecological Park, Linfen city, Shanxi, on July 27.

Originated from the rowing contest between the universities of Oxford and Cambridge along the River Thames in 1829, rowing has developed into one of the most influential sports at the Olympic Games since its debut in 1900.

As a world-level regatta event, this year’s IURR attracts 12 crews from the world’s elite universities, including Yale, Cambridge, University of Paris, University of Copenhagen, University of Amsterdam and China’s Peking University.

The competition will run on the Fenhe River, within the beautiful Fenhe River scenic area in Linfen, capital city under the reign of Emperor Yao (2356 – 2255 BC), a legendary father of the Chinese nation.

Themed “Beauty of Eco-Linfen, Green and Harmonious,” this year’s IURR is hosted by the China Water Sports Administration, Shanxi Sports Bureau and Linfen municipal government.

To make the event a platform of cultural communication, a local dragon boat race, as well as folk performances and campus culture activities, will be held for guests from around the world to experience the profound culture and beautiful landscapes of Linfen during the event.
