The provincial statistics bureau of Shanxi and national bureau of statistics have reported provincial year-on-year growth of 9 percent in the GDP in the first half of 2013, at 601.7 billion yuan ($98.1 billion), or 1.4 percent percentage points above the national average.

The value added output for primary industry was up 4 percent, secondary grew 10.5 percent, and tertiary, 7.4, in the first half, while revenues reached 157.2 billion yuan, or 5.5-percent growth year on year. This growth is mainly the result of five things -- infant industries, provincial government policies, investment, consumer spending, and imports and exports.

In spite of a slowdown in the global economic recovery, and structural transformations in the Chinese economy, the province’s strong bases are helping maintain steady growth on into the future.
