The Pushou Temple, on Mount Wutai, Shanxi province, started its 2013 global application process recently, with its deadline on April 25, Chinanews.com reported on Monday.

The temple plans to accept 66 applicants. The age limit for nuns has been raised to 50 years of age, this year. The idea is to cultivate Buddhists with moral integrity and a good work-spirit, who are knowledgeable, and devoted to guarding the temple.

There is a three-step exam for applicants -- an online registration process, online evaluation, and face-to-face interview. The exam emphasizes morality, so that even those who fail the exam but are moral and have integrity still have an opportunity to be accepted.

Mount Wutai is one of China’s most famous Buddhist retreats, with a long history and magnificent building scale, and a reputation that extends around the world. In 2009, it was added to the UNESCO list of world heritage sites for its culture and landscape.
