The world's second tallest building, the Shanghai Tower went into trial operation on Wednesday, after eight years of construction.

The 632-meter skyscraper, another landscape building for Lujiazui, Pudong, is now officially China's highest, and second worldwide to only the 828-meter Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

Only the skirting buildings and basement of the high-rise were opened to the public in the first phase of its trial operation.

To give credit to every contributor to the tower, a 60-meter-long Wall of Honor made of colored glazed glass was erected at the west of the main building, carved with the names of 500 corporations and 4,021 individuals.

Completing the construction of the super-high building complex at the core of Lujiazui, Shanghai Tower epitomizes a vertical city that incorporates office space, hotels, exhibitions, and sightseeing, optimizing the layout of the area, upgrading the supporting functions of Shanghai's Financial Center, and promoting the cluster of modern service industry.

Shanghai Tower has been widely applauded in the international community for its green philosophy of "sustainable development" and "people-oriented" ideas.
