The Lujiazui area of Shanghai's Pudong New District is on its way to becoming the city's top commercial area thanks to the large number of projects under construction and expected to go operational in the next few years, Pudong Times has reported on Jan 11.

A few of the examples the article cites include the Pudong Financial Plaza consisting of three office buildings, a shopping mall and a four-story underground parking lot, which covers a combined floor space of 450,000 square meters and is expected to be completed by the end of 2018, and enterprises such as Taikang Asset Management Co and China's e-commerce giant Alibaba expressing their intention to move in.

There is also a renovation project of the old Shanghai Shipyard site developed by the State-backed conglomerate CITIC and the China State Shipbuilding Corp, with a planned floor area of 847,000 sq m. It will be done in three stages and include office buildings, shops, residences, and hotels. Some leading financial institutions from China and abroad have said they are interested in its office areas.

And there is a real estate project of Shanghai's CIFI Group, in Lujiazui's Yangjing area covering about 87,000 sq m, designed as residential, office and commercial areas. In addition to these new commercial projects, there are traditional ones for improvement, for instance, Yaohan No.1 Department Store which uses information technology such as Wifi to better serve its consumers.
