In the January-June period, the retail sales of consumer goods of 17 commercial complexes and two commercial streets in Jiading district, Shanghai reached 5.65 billion yuan ($87.22 million).

To further boost consumption, especially nighttime consumption in the district, many merchants have taken actions like extending service time, opening both online and offline platforms, as well as holding markets to attract families.

"Xiyunlou", a 1,500-meter commercial street themed around Shanghai culture, is located near residential areas. Merchants on the commercial street hold various nighttime markets every weekend to attract residents who come here for a walk by selling intangible cultural heritage items like tuanshan, or round fans, original fine jewelry, and culinary delicacies.

With the growth of commercial complexes in Jiading district, people are more willing to spend more on experiences and child-parent activities than on food and clothing, said Li Jianzhe, operation manager of the commercial street.

Another nighttime consumption focus is food. Shanghai Guyi Garden Restaurant, which is famous for its Nanxiang Xiaolongbao, or Nanxiang steamed bun, has extended its opening time until 8pm since August so that more residents and visitors are able to try the traditional Shanghai snack.

Wanda Plaza in Jiading New Area has provided various sales and extended its opening time to promote nighttime consumption. It is also holding events, such as a food festival that encourages customers to vote for their favorite food and comment on restaurants. Restaurants are also offering discounts to customers as part of the special event.
